Aston University

School Profile:

Aston University was founded in 1895, formerly known as Birmingham Municipal Technical School, and was officially upgraded to a university in 1966. There are nearly 15,500 students on campus, of which about 15% are international students from more than 120 countries, and students can come into contact with cultures from all over the world.

 


Students interested in studying Modern Languages can choose from additional electives including Spanish, German and French. The teaching direction of the university is to emphasize both theory and practice, so the school has provided business courses that meet practical needs since its establishment, and has maintained good exchanges with the British government and the business community. Most courses also provide a one-year off-campus internship to improve learning efficiency. The school attaches great importance to the employment situation of students and encourages students to participate in work internships. The business school has a very high evaluation internationally, especially in Europe. About 70% of all current students will participate in work placement programmes during their degree programmes.

 

According to the Guardian University Guide 2022, the school is ranked 47th in the UK and 45th in the overall ranking of the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

 

Subject introduction:

The university has a total of twelve colleges, namely Aston Business School, Aston Graduate School, Aston Law School, Aston Medical School, Aston Pharmacy School, School of Biosciences, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Informatics and Digital Engineering, School of Infrastructure and Sustainable Engineering, School Optometry, School of Psychology and School of Social Sciences and Humanities offer students a three-year bachelor's program and a one-year master's program. The school's most popular courses are Business, Computer Science, Engineering and Medicine. In addition, the school offers Optometry, which is a rare medical-related course. Aston features a unique virtual patient simulator to help students develop initial clinical skills before facing real patients in a fully functional optometry clinic, where clinical staff (including ophthalmologists, optometrists, plastic surgeons and opticians) Provides a full range of eye care services to patients under close supervision.

 

In addition, the business school has AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (The European Quality Improvement System) and AMBA (Association of MBAs) accreditation. Business and Management is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2022, and the top 42 business schools (Aston Business School) in the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022. The first Centre for Excellence in Gamified Teaching and Learning (A-GamE) was established, launched in 2018, to lead the development of innovative teaching practices in higher education by using best practices in games, experiments and simulations in teaching.

 

Geographical location:

The University is located in the center of Birmingham, the second largest city in the United Kingdom, and is the heart of the United Kingdom and the hub of British road and rail traffic. The city is also the largest factory and industrial center in the UK. The campus is about 30 minutes by train from Birmingham Airport. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to take the train from Birmingham to London. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the campus to the city center, and it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the train station.
