The University of Southampton started in 1862 and was upgraded to a British university in 1952. It is one of the leading research universities in the UK and a member of the Russell University Group. The current student population exceeds 23,000, and more than 8,000 international students come from 134 countries every year. The school has a staff-to-student ratio of 1:12. The university has a high reputation both in the UK and internationally. In The Times & Sunday Times Good University 2022 rankings, the university ranks 16th in the UK overall.
